With so many negative stories in the news these days, we must not forget that acts of kindness and heroism happen every day. And the aftermath of a recent car accident reminds us of one of the many reasons why Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State.

Last weekend, two Tennessee teenagers were injured in a serious single-vehicle car crash. One of the first passersby to stop and render aid was none other than Jeff Fisher, former head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

According to authorities, the accident occurred when the 17-year-old driver lost control of the car while driving along a road in Brentwood. The road has no shoulder and slopes down on either side. The car reportedly ran off the road and overturned after hitting a pole.

While the driver suffered minor injuries, a 14-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Several people stopped to help the accident victims, including Mr. Fisher. In a later phone interview, he told reporters that he stayed with the victims until medical help arrived and tried to render aid to the best of his ability.

His good deed might have gone unnoticed. But even in the chaos of the scene, he was recognized as a Tennessee celebrity.

One woman at the crash scene was calling 911 when she spotted Fisher. On a recording of the 911 call, she is heard saying: "Hi Coach Fisher, hi, we need you. Right now! There's Coach Fisher. That's Jeff Fisher, from the Titans. So hold on. We need him. Immediately."

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor, and the exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined. But immediately after any car accident, the most important and pressing concern is to save lives and tend to the victims. Thanks to the help of Mr. Fisher and several other Good Samaritans, the two teenagers were able to receive emergency care and were transported to the hospital.
